Everything You Need to Know About Mrs. K Teaches SPED
Hi, I’m Heather — and if you’re looking for a perfectly polished, color-coded, Type A educator, you’ve come to the wrong place. I’m somewhere around Type Z special education teacher, perpetually driving the hot mess express, and somehow making it work anyway.
My life is chaotic by nature. I’m a parent to two amazing kids, proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, and I share my life with two wonderful partners. Add three cats, three dogs, and a whole lot of noise, and you’ve got a pretty accurate picture of my daily existence. I wouldn’t trade it for anything — most days.
The Special Education Part
I hold a B.S. in Early Childhood Special Education and an M.Ed. in Special Education, and I’m currently working toward another M.Ed. in Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics, and Assessment because apparently I enjoy making my life harder. I’ve taught in Pre-K, Head Start, Early Head Start, and K–5 collaborative special education classrooms. I also have ADHD myself, which means I have a firsthand perspective on learning differences — and a deep appreciation for systems that actually work without requiring perfection.
The TPT Part
Mrs. K Teaches SPED started because I needed resources that were truly accessible and differentiated for my students — and I couldn’t always find them. So I made them myself. Now I create practical, no-fuss K–2 special education resources for teachers who are also out here doing a million things at once. We get each other.
Outside the Chaos
When I’m not teaching, creating, or wrangling children and pets, you’ll find me reading, taking photos, or diving into a new creative project. This blog is my space to share honest reflections, teaching tips, and the real, unfiltered truth about navigating life, learning, and a whole lot of joyful chaos.
